This 2022 Meritage from Delectus just might be the easiest-to-drink wine in our current collection, even aside from its practical 375 mL format. California-grown Cabernet Sauvignon is deftly balanced with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot for an incredibly smooth melding of fruit and spice notes. The moderate 13.5% alcohol is thoroughly integrated, providing subtle structure for a full, round flow of ripe blackberry, blueberry, plum, vanilla, and cinnamon. A sultry underlayer of black peppercorn and coffee bean lends substance, and uplifting accents of bay laurel and fennel complete the finish. About the Producer
Delectus Winery was established in Napa Valley in 1995 by Austrian winemaker Gerhard Reisacher and then-wife Linda Butler. In 2005, the founders acquired a 112-acre hillside property in Sonoma County’s Knights Valley and planted Bordeaux varietals as well as Petite Sirah. They developed a reputation for bold luxury reds grown in both valleys, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2016, Delectus was acquired by Vintage Wine Estates of Santa Rosa, and consulting winemaker Chris Phelps (Château Pétrus, Dominus Estate, and Caymus Vineyards) was appointed to apply his deft yet generous touch.
