Brothers Simone and Leonardo Abram, natives of Trentino, purchased Il Macchione in 2007 and converted the entire estate to organic and biodynamic farming. At altitudes of about 350 meters in Montepulciano's fossil-rich, sandstone-strewn Caggiole Valley, the Abrams are fanatical in their vineyard management, capturing not just sangiovese's perfume, but its power. This wine is all class with the grape’s signature cherry and floral notes followed by its intense and resounding structure on the finish. It’s a big, warm Tuscan hug of dark cherry, anise, clove, fig, and raspberry, with hints of saddle leather and sandalwood.
